{"Running, Cheaper Than Therapy"}

I'm sure many of you have seen the in my opinion perfect phrase "Running, Cheaper Than Therapy". In our search to live the fabuless life, my sister Candace and I both enjoy running and participating in races! Not only are we not spending lots of money on the therapy we'd need without running, we are having a meaningful 'me' experience, which let's be honest...ALL moms need.

I have officially been in Chicago for 2 months! Time sure does fly...most days. :) Those windy and cold days seem to drag on and on and on when my little girl and I are stuck inside (once again, moms know how that goes). This past weekend was the Hot Chocolate 5K/15K in downtown Chicago! I registered for the 15K race back in July when Candace found the race and encouraged me to set the goal and do it. So, for the past few months, I've been that mom you see out running with her jogging stroller constantly grabbing toys and handing them around to the front of the stroller..sometimes pulling over to peak in at Cora, etc. It's been interesting, but also SO good! As I said, the race was this past weekend, and it was the absolute best running experience I've had up to this point! I felt like I was flying!..(maybe because I was a free woman without the jogging stroller to push, just a theory). My shoes felt great, it was a beautiful day, and I was running through downtown Chicago! What more could you ask for?!

For those who are looking for a fabuless way to stay sane through the day to day adventures of life, try running! And, take it one step further by registering for a 5K (3.1 miles) in your area. If you're really ambitious, sign up for a half marathon! Go Crazy! It's nice to have something for yourself as a mom..and working towards a goal of accomplishing a race is a great way to do that!

Check out a picture of me after the race!

Have a fabuless day!

sincerely fabuless, the windy city.

  1. Thanks for the post! I am currently working on my goal to run a 5k. I am so excited, but I have to go running in the morning without kids, so my "training" ability is in someone else's hand. My goal is to run in the Spring, so keep in touch to keep me on track!

  2. Dianah - so proud of you for taking on a 5K - ill warn you - it's kind of addicting. I ran on high school and signed up for my first 5k about a year and a half ago and now I run about one race a month and am sponsored by Snickers Team Marathon Bar. If you are looking for a really good training aid you can look up Smart Coach by Runners World and/or download the Smart Coach app if you have a smartphone. I am running a 12k Turkey Trot to the Hoover Dam and then have my favorite..the rock n roll half marathon the first week in December so look for an update post from me!

  3. Hi Dianah! So excited for you to be training for a 5K! That's great! It's not always easy to get out there and run as a mom, but just do your best. My goal is running 3 days a week, and that seemed to work well for me. Mix up your work outs with longer and shorter runs depending on the day. Good Luck! Keep us posted!

  4. Having been close to post partum (or being there and being in denial) for almost 2 years, I picked up running as a way to lose weight. I started off with doing just 20 minutes in the morning...and that was last September (2010). I ran my first marathon 2 weeks ago and am eager to find another one! I am the running advocate who is trying to get my friends, family, and coworkers to race with me... I stress to them that 5Ks are perhaps the friendliest race as they are usually the most walker-friendly...a great 'security thought' for a first-timer!
